  • Rick Liming

    BOARD MEMBER

Rick was born in Los Angeles, California to a family with a deep heritage with the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana.  The summer of 1963, after completing the 5th grade, they moved to San Jose, California where he graduated from Willow Glen High School and went on to San Jose State University, majoring in mathematics.

Math wasn't the problem - PE was.  Freshman PE was a required course but it was full so he took Judo instead.  As he was preparing to enter his 4th semester he discovered that Judo was not a substitute for Freshman PE even though it had been full every time he tried to sign up for it.  He needed a break and joined the US Air Force in 1972 eventually serving at Cambria AFS - a small radar station on the California Coast.

After 4 years in the Air Force he returned to San Jose with a wife and daughter in tow.  Back to college with a new direction into digital electronics and computers led to him starting his own business doing field service work repairing the electronic systems on CNC machine tools.  Along the way he had a second daughter, moved to Manteca, CA, then to Modesto, CA where he worked with the youth department at his local church, spent 17 years as tournament director for the Western States Classic Softball Tournament - held annually over Labor Day Weekend with churches across the western states (including Alaska!), and watched his 7 grandchildren become adults (6 in their 20's and 1 who is only 8).

Next up - well, there's this orphanage in Uganda.  Perhaps you've heard of it?
